The Squibs were from Aberdeen, Scotland. They were started in the late 70s by bassist Dave Baird who was their key songwriter. Their sound is mod flavored post-punk and, although John Peel was a fan and gave them some exposure, they never went very far. I think this one single is their only release (please tell me I'm wrong) and the guy who sold it to me claimed there were only 750 copies made. A quick search shows that there are at least 4 copies for sale online at this very moment. A bit odd for such a rare record.
After this Dave Baird moved to London and played for a bit with Knox but has since dropped out of music.

The Squibs were great. They released another single before this one called 'On the Line'. Both were released on Oily Records, a local label. The label also released singles by the Tools, President's Men (x2) and APB (x5) which are all worth checking out. Also distributed records from the Highlands of Scotland by bands like the Grip, Segue, the Naturals and Hustler. Apparently the Squibs had a large teenage following at the time in Aberdeen according to a work colleague who used to go and see the bnd for this very reason.
Used to see them at many gigs around Aberdeen - particularly at The Croft. Tremendous live band!
Of course Cliff is great on vocals...and Jimmy on sax rocks BIGTIME...fondest memories x
They were great and I remember Dave Baird was a really nice guy.
